North Carolina facing charges for identity theft

A 37-year-old North Carolina woman is facing federal charges of white collar crime after she allegedly stole a United States marine's identity. She was indicted on April 30 after an investigation by authorities. The charges are based on allegations of identity theft-related crimes.

The U.S. Marine Corps Legal Assistance Office contacted federal authorities last month and notified them the woman accused was allegedly using the marine's Social Security number since around 2003. She had purportedly used the man's identity for employment at Acme McCrary Corporation located in Asheboro. When her employment documentation was obtained from the company, it allegedly showed the woman had used a fake permanent resident alien identification card and the marine's Social Security card.

Man charged with robbery in 2 separate Greensboro incidents

A man has been accused of robbery after allegedly targeting seniors in the Greensboro area. Police believe the man specifically picked out seniors at grocery stores. The 38-year-old man is facing two charges of common law robbery in connection with two separate incidents.

The current charges stem from robberies that occurred on Hackett's Lake Road and Ariel Farm Road. The man allegedly followed seniors after they left local stores. When an opportunity presented itself, he purportedly bumped the elderly person's vehicle with his own car. After the person got out of their vehicle to check the damage, the man supposedly robbed them.

Burlington man faces second sexual assault charge after DNA match

A man is facing serious felony charges after his DNA allegedly matched samples collected from a crime scene last year. The North Carolina man from Burlington is already in jail on charges related to a previous sexual assault. The 35-year-old now must defend numerous felony charges in connection with two separate assaults, one in October 2010 and another in March 2011.

When a 61-year-old Burlington woman reported on March 12, 2011, that she had been burglarized, sexually assaulted and was the victim of larceny, investigators noticed similarities between her case and another that had occurred in October 2010. DNA results for the first incident were a match for the Burlington man, and he was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sexual offense, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, larceny after breaking and entering and filing a false report.

Robbery: new twist on a stickup in Greensboro

A thwarted robbery in Greensboro has led to charges against two men. A robbery alarm at the Express Mart Shell on Summit Avenue triggered a police response at 1:17 a.m. on April 11. When law enforcement arrived, employees described what they said was an attempted robbery.

Details surrounding much of the incident were unavailable but, according to the employees, they were taking inventory when two men entered the store. One of the men, who was said to be carrying a stick, went behind the counter and demanded money. A brief squabble ensued, the nature of which was not described except to say the two men fled the scene without merchandise or money. There were no reported injuries as a result of the scuffle.

Greensboro man charged with local copper theft

With unemployment at a sky-high rate, individuals are having trouble making ends meet. This is causing some people to become desperate and do whatever they need to do in order to pay the bills. Copper theft has become a prevalent crime in the Greensboro area and across the rest of the country, as evidenced by the announcement of a recent arrest.

A 22-year-old Greensboro man stands accused of at least 39 copper thefts in the city over the past two years. Local police say they have been investigating the copper thefts since April 2010. The young man has been linked by authorities to copper thefts from businesses, a residence, 11 places of worship and even medical facilities.

Greensboro man accused of white collar crime after name change

A 30-year-old Greensboro man is facing white collar crime charges after being arrested on suspicion of fraud. The man was arrested on March 22 but was able to post bond of $10,001. He is now free on bail. His next court date to answer the white collar crime allegations is April 23.

Man accused of burglary for 6 North Carolina break-ins

A Burlington man has been accused of burglarizing six North Carolina establishments and has since been arrested. About 20 minutes after midnight one night, police responded to a security alarm call at a University of North Carolina facility. When they arrived, police found evidence of a burglary by way of a broken window.

While the police were investigating, the sound of glass breaking led them to a nearby nightclub. There they found evidence of another break-in, as they noticed another broken window and liquor bottles scattered throughout the parking lot. Using police dogs, authorities say they traced the trail of the alleged burglar to a drainage tunnel underneath a highway and eventually apprehending him near a local place of business. The man, wet and caked with mud, was arrested and transported to a medical center to receive treatment for undisclosed injuries.

North Carolina man crashes into house, faces drug charges

Police in Winston-Salem took a man into custody recently on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, among other alleged crimes. The drug charges of which the 40-year-old man stands accused are felony-level crimes, which could carry a substantial amount of time in prison as well as other penalties. Under the circumstances, he will likely need to ensure his legal rights are fully protected as he fights the charges lodged against him.

The arrest reportedly took place on the morning of March 22. Police say the man's SUV began to speed away from a traffic stop when it collided with a house. They caught up to the man, and say they additionally seized almost seven pounds of marijuana from inside the man's car. The value of the alleged marijuana is estimated by authorities at around $22,350. He also faces charges of felony speeding to elude arrest.

North Carolina man charged with rape from 1981 incident

New evidence in a 1981 North Carolina rape case had led to the arrest of a 62-year old man on suspicion of the crime. He is now facing a felony charge of rape. The man has also been charged with another rape that occurred in the same year. He is facing a felony in the second case as well.

Three decades have passed since a 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted while sleeping on the couch in her home. She woke to a man on top of her telling her that he would not hurt her if she didn't make any noise. At the hospital, a rape kit was collected, but the trail went cold because police had no suspects in the case.

Felony sex crime filed after indecent photo with baby in Mebane

A North Carolina man from Mebane will likely need a strong criminal defense after his arrest for a suspected sex crime. A potentially incriminating photo was allegedly found by his family member, who was said to have thereafter notified the authorities. The photo was apparently discovered on the man's laptop and purportedly showed the man sitting exposed while on a couch with a 1-year-old child. Arrested in December 2011, he has been accused of a felony charge of indecent liberties with a minor.

The police were notified on Dec. 11 and obtained a search warrant. An officer snapped a photograph of the man's computer screen, with the allegedly incriminating picture displayed. The photo on the computer apparently had a date stamp of Nov. 3.
